Alta Rock Carvings and Museum
Inscribed on World Heritage List in 1985. The rock carvings at Alta contains a significant collection of carvings giving us insight into people's lives and their conception of the world. Ancient peoples lived all over northern Norway from prehistoric times, leaving many traces of their lives. The Alta Rock Carvings (Helleristningene) surrounding Alta Museumare among the best, and range in age from 2,000 to 6,000 years.

Finnmark’s first silversmith (estab. 1959) offers traditional and exclusive modern jewellery made on the premises. International art and handicrafts are presented in a beautiful, special and unique setting. This is an architectural attraction, developed by Frank and Regine Juhls themselves for over 42 years. Free admission and guided tour. Simple café. Opening hours: 9 am-6 pm. Kautokeino Museum and Cultural Centre The small town of Kautokeino has become a centre for Sami culture. It has the only Sami theatre in Norway, which incorporates the Nordic Sami Research Centre. The theatre won an architectural prize in 1987 and is used for concerts and exhibitions. An open-air Museum, consisting of a collection of old buildings, shows aspects of Sami life and culture.
