On the 17th of May, 1814, the Norwegian Constitution was proclaimed in the Constitutional Assembly Hall at Eidsvoll. Prince Christian Frederik was elected king. Today, May 17 - «Syttende Mai» - is celebrated as Norway's national day. Article 1 The Kingdom of Norway is a free, independent, indivisible and inalienable Realm. Its form of government is a limited and hereditary monarchy. Article 2 All inhabitants of the Realm shall have the right to free exercise of their religion. The Evangelical-Lutheran religion shall remain the official religion of the State. The inhabitants professing it are bound to bring up their children in the same.

#### Hamar - At the northern end of the Mjøsa Lake, Hamar contains the Hedmark Museum, dedicated to the medieval period. There is also a Museum of Holography, unique in Norway, and the Olympic Hall (Vikingskibet), the speed skating site of the 1994 Olympics, and Domkirkeodden, the ruins of the original Hamar Cathedral now covered by protective glass and declared a Norwegian National Heritage site.
